Now Open to All BIPOC Writers!
In this day and age, everyone is talking about diversity. We need diversity in our schools, our government, and our publishing houses. There is a movement for publishers to produce more and more books written by BIPOC writers. Yet, in our neck of the woods, the number of BIPOC writers of fiction, and the number of publishers who would produce them, is still dwindling.
For example, did you know that when it comes to speculative fiction written by Black writers, only 4-6% of Black authors get published by what is commonly referred to as The Big Five publishers?
These include major publishing houses such as Harper Collins, Penguin Random House, Hachette Livre, Simon & Schuster, and MacMillan Publishers.
Apparently, these publishing houses, although they are mighty, don’t seem to think that Black people like to read Science Fiction, Fantasy Fiction, Horror, and other books with Magically Realistic elements, let alone write them. They happily reject the stories of Black and other BIPOC authors, and they don’t seem to understand how much representation matters to us when we read books in these genres.
They don’t get that we don’t want books that only focus on our plights as BIPOC people, but there needs to be a focus on the fact that there is a need for more publishers to produce books that show that we, too, can be heroes and heroines, or we can have or show love, without needing to always show us being killed in the streets or fighting…because we’re more than that.
Lemons & Gold Publishing LLC is an indie publisher that promises to produce high-quality writings of BIPOC writers from around the world to present amazing works of fiction to our readers. Many have questioned us as to why we are focused on publishing BIPOC authors, and the answer is: try to understand not having control of your own narrative.
Here, at Lemons & Gold Publishing LLC, we own our voices. Whether you are a Black, Native American, Latinx, Hispanic, Asian, Mediterranean, or a mix of races; whether our characters are going off into battle with their army, or writing their new lives into existence, our stories are told from behind the minds and eyes of BIPOC writers who thought of them. We are open to the stories of BIPOC authors who are also LGBTQ, Disabled, or Neurodivergent. Lemons & Gold Publishing LLC publishes our stories with the respect and proper representation that they deserve.
If you are wanting to join Lemons & Gold Publishing LLC and our mission to close up the gap between BIPOC authors and publishing, please see our Submissions page for the guidelines. Buy your new favorite book below, today!
